lol now that I got you all wondering what I am talking about mom and I put up several baggies of spinach and a couple of beet greens, today we canned 12 pints of stewed maters, they look pretty good if you ask me. And for the heck of it here is a pic of one of the as I call them rusty sunflowers a friend gave us, I am going to keep the seeds and replant them next spring, they are such a beautiful color

Mom found our pheonix roo dead in the barn yesterday morning
he was the beautiful roo in my banner and in the pic laying with on of our does
he was pretty old
Him a few hens and another pheonix came over from our neighbors, lol they would come over and visit and a few years ago desided to stay over here lol
We have several pheonix crosses now cause of them, he will be missed, I loved seeing his tail blowing in the breeze.

they ran past Duff with the coon in hot persuite

and Duff pounced on and killed the coom

Duff got a lil mark on his leg lol he is a very active doggy and that is why there is such a big spot of blukote on his leglol he would not stay still

went baby stuff shopping yesterday

for her great nephew(who is still baking in the oven lol)

knocked off a bunch of tree limbs lol and we olny have the two tree's by the barn this is out back of the barn 4 large limbs fell off of this tree, the cows were just a munching away o them this morning

this is out front of the barn this one had me worried as it was right on the fence

thanks goodness nothing was broke phew

this is a diffent veiw of the front tree

We had our friend with a chain saw come cut the limbs so we could get them away from the fence, the goats are gonna be very happy when we let them back out into the main psature lol

and just forthe heck of it here is our youngest kid with his buddy,the roo baby
and if that kid does not see the roo he screams his bloody head off til he finds him he will go looking its the cutest thing lol

from time to time we have hens steal nests on us, well one did that and she was bringing her peeps out for the first time, another hen grabbed one of the peeps, and took off with it, mom go it from her but the damage had been done. The peeps leg had been broken at the base of it's lil foot, and no telling what internal damage had been done. I taped the break and prayed, sadly the lil peep did not make it. I found it dead the next morning. We got the 3 other chicks but momma took off for parts unknown so the chicks are in the porch under a heat lamp til they are big enough to go out to the hen-house. This is one reason we try so hard not to have the hens steal nests, that and the barn cats would get em but man can they be sneaky determined lil buggers when they go broody. Not much else to talk about today knida bummed about losing that peep, so I am outta here laters

it was a lovely day out today so I decided to stain the picnic table, I sanded it first lordy that took ages to do oiy
I got the top and seats done then ran out of stain whoops lol I will need to get more to finish the under parts, and I think I am going to re stain it so it is a deeper tone. I am really liking how it looks even half finished, I picked out a dark cherry stain, can't wait to get back to the hardware store and get more to finish it up, then I'll decide if I am gonna do some stenciling on it or not, kinda up in the air about that now ehhh a girl can change her mind right. There is one part that I am gonna need to fix on one of the seats part of it rotted so I am gonna have to get a piece of wood cut to fit and make a support on one of the seats, otherwise this picnic table is built like a rock really sturdy and very very heavy lol, my bosses used their bucket tractor to bring it to me, they had it tied to it I wish I had thought to grab my cam when they brought it oh well that's the breaks.

Phew what a long day my sister and I went all over the place today, getting stuff for Cole's bday party, I got the stuff for my macaroni salad, and picked up a gift for him its a race car type of toy that has a spiraling tract lol and it is very noisy heh it is from toy story 3 all through the store "to infinity and beyond" could be heard emitting from my shopping cart lol, we distracted Cole and snuck it into the bird room(where we have our house birds)lol, then brought the rest of my stuff into the house.

I bought a round picnic table from my bosses and today I picked up some stain for it hope to get it a purtied up soon, maybe tomorrow if it is not to hot out

here is the before image, I also plan on stenciling it too just gotta find a stencil that I like, I may just make one of my own

We sold a buckling today yay, the lady was looking for a lamoncha buckling we have a cross breed, lol she fell in love with and ended up taking our alpine buckling instead heh, we did find out that her hubbs has a sharping business, so we now know where we can send our hoof trimmers and anything else that needs sharpening cool

Our hens are slowing down on laying eggs and don't yah know all our egg customers are wanting eggs now lol where in the heck were they when we had eggs coming outta our ears is what I would like to know, oh well lol

We have one egg customer that has a cabin out this way and he was on his way home to NYC of all places lol he bought us out lmao so he could take some home with him, he always does that when he gets out to his cabin, a few times in the summer, he brought a friend with him who was rather enthralled with my silkies giggle he took some pics of me holding one of my pullets and also of some of the goats

Thursday ramblings

We have a few maters on the vine it'll be a lttle while before they are ready though they are just itty bitty things lol
and methinks the store mistagged the peppers we got lol they are looking suspicly like hot peppers and not sweet bell peppers lol, I am gonna put some in the freezer to keep em til I figure out what to do with them , the lettce is doing pretty good too, it is nice to have a bit of fresh green stuff around here

we have two volenteer sunflowers just starting to bloome,a bird must of dropped the seeds and lol they dropped them convently into a flowerpot next to the flowers up front of the house

Got some mineral and salt blocks for the goats the other day lol goofy things they swarmed me when I was taking them into the big calf hutch, they just gotta see what your doing when you go into the pen or pasture, well unless you want to get one of them then all bets are off they will not come anywhere near you lol, thats when the magiacal call of the grain scoop does wonders heh

my sister is taking me shopping thursday to get a gift for my Nephew and also to get the makings for my macaroni salad that I will make for his bday party this saterday, the whole family is gonna be getting together can't wait its gonna be a blast.

been real busy around here lol

We took a bunch of roosters to the auction not to long agoomg lol there were 30 I so did not know we had that many timl I started to crate them up lol, the hens are so much happier with out all them boys around lol, heh anyone need some eggs we got em coming outta our ears now lol

All of our goats have kidded yay though I had to pull the last kid a dead lil boy *sad face* guess you can't win wm all huh

had to show this pic lol one of our roo babies has taken up residence with our two youngest kids and like to drink milk with them lol

With the last doe to freshen it brings us up to milking 9 doe's we feed the milk to our two youngest goat kids and our two calves.

We have had a few hens steal nests lol one was under the hen house I had to dig her out lol boy I got dirty it had been rainy so you can guess what I looked like by the time I was done lol

yesterday another hen came out with 5 more we got the chicks but momma got away from us lol so they are in with the other peeps in the porch oh well and we thought we were done with brooding this year heh it was way to hot to make anything for breakfast soooooooo this is what I had lol works for me lol

Lots of kids are in residence. We are now up to 8 kids 3 bucks and 5 does, we are happy with that

The hens are popping out eggs like there is no tomorrow. Tractor Supply is going to be the death of us lol I am afraid to count how many peeps we have gotten from there, I do know the last bunch we got there were around 25 we lost some though and we are suppose to be splitting up the ones we have so lol it will not be to bad, we also need to get rid of a bunch of roo's and some hens to make room for the new ones lol they can not stay in our porch forever, even if they want too

We are milking 7 does with one more to kid yay the 1st freshens figured out how to jump onto the milk stand and put thier heads in the stanchion, and tey they were not gonna be goosed each time we touched them lol, the old does were like get the heck outta the way I am coming through they know milk stand means grain heh. Boy are they putting out the milk too we are feeding the kids and two young calves with no trouble I love our girls

oh yah and we got a calf giving to us, free is good lol, my friend gave him to us cause he is small and would not have gotton anything at auction, calves are not selling well here at the moment

well after two puter crashes getting a new tower having that get struck by lighting, taking way to long to get the repair guys to listen that hello there was more wrong than just the modem, after they had came and replaces it 3 times HA I was right the motherboard had been toasted too when it was struck by lighting, oh yah and me loosing the link to my blog I think I am back lol

Ok to start the updates lol Ringlet calved in August she had the cutest heifer calf ever that we are keeping and her name is waffle she is 3 months old in this photo

We have sold a few does and all the buck kids earlier this summer, and we think that everyone else is bred and we should start getting babies around April, we bred em to kid late this year cause we had a bad kidding season last spring and did not want to repeat that this go around.

Our neighbors moved away and we got the chance to get this great lil hen house, not the best pic of it on the inside left are nest boxes the run the whole length of the side, on the right are the roosts, I fixed em up as the ones in there were kinda old and loose, I love the big window in the back it lets in loads of light for them to see, we have all the oopies momma's hide the nest chicks in there lol well they are not chicks anymore some are laying the cutest pullet eggs lol they are tiny.

I am so happy lol we got our beef back from the butcher this week wahoo I had a nummy melt in your mouth steak it was a rib eye :P

tonight we make a roast with all the fixings twas so very good

So far the hens are still laying pretty good they are keeping us in eggs and a few of our friends too

We have new neighbors but they did not get to stay in their house for long sadly the house caught on fire the day after thanksgiving and it was pretty much totaled, they were new renters there, they finally found a new place to rent not to far away from us and in the spring they can build a hen house there so they can take their hens back we are taking care of them for them til then.

The farmer we get our round bales from brought us two today its so nice that they are just up the road and will bring us hay so that we do not need to store it here it would be kinda hard to do that with round bales the way we are set up lol as it is we keep what we have here tarped to keep em from getting wet and moldy

lol it seems this year we will not have to worry about our driveway getting plowed so far we have had the farmer up the road, our new neighbors, and my nephew come and plow lol though lol it can get a bit slick its nice not to have to walk in snow up past ones knees to get to the mailbox lol

we had a hen steal a nest right under our nose's erm lol she stole a nest on a ledge above our barn door. SO now we have 6 cute lil silkie mixbreeds with their momma who is also a silkie mixbreed.

My silkie hen is broody and has adopted two peeps that are almost as big a she is it is the sweetest thing, they are silkies from her that I hatched out.
I also have new silkie peep in the bator hatched out this morning sometime. there are 6 more eggs in the bator

We have gotton several more of our does bred too, our boys are pretty pooped lol not sure how many we have left to come into heat I don't think there are to many left

Am so excited a dear friend is coming out to stay for about a week I so can not wait. She will be here in two short days, this is gonna be a blast

Went down to do chores yesterday and I was greeted by 7 of our doe's out front of the barn oh crap lol they should of been in the back pasture. Took a bit but got em back into the barn area, Today Mom and I walked the fence line to see what was up. Some of woven wire was touching the eletrical fence we pulled it back and tightened up some of the eletrical fenceing, tested it tonight with the fence tester and it is working now, so the goats should stay where they are sapose to be

around here, My cousin has been staying with us she is from NC and will be leaving on the 20th, I have had fun it is always nice when she comes out.

We got a load of sweetcorn giving to us so we got that all husked and put into the freezer, mom is also canning some mater's today that a friend gave us, we will prolley be getting more later depends oh how their garden produces.

Saw Ringlet our beef cow in heat the other day.
Had to move the steer out of the pen into the pasture, got Ringlet into the small pasture by the barn, away from her calf. Several scoops of grain later got Ringlet into the pen in the barn. Went to get the number of the guy who A.I.'s(artificial insemination)only to find out that he is out of town. lol so now we wait about 18-20 days til she comes back into heat. Praying that we do not miss it.
We may have a doe coming into heat will see what she thinks of the buck in the morning tonight she jumped up onto the hay pile and gave me the look of death lol

Lost a couple chickens today
One was my mean lil roo Flipflop he had been sick on and off all year, I really do not know how he lived this long. One thing after another, this last time his legs gave out so I knew it was just a latter of time for him, the shocker was when I went to feed the cow and calf, Ringlet stepped on a hen she has never done that before it was just the hen was in the wrong place at the wrong time , I held the hen as she gasped her last breathe I was bawling the whole time, man I feel awful. so instead one one hole to dig I had 2

Today our one alpine Carley was in heat, we put her in with our Buck Velvet so hopefully in 5 months we will have some babies outta her yay
We also wormed everyone today oh what fun lol. They were not all that bad to too but lol there were a lot of goats to grab and worm lol
We also went to a friends place and wormed the two does he got from use today. While we were there I got to see their 3 legged pitbull she was the sweetest thing ever giggle she kept laying on my feet and wanted lots of lovings lol, she is a brindle a absolutely gorgeous doggy fer sure, I love their yellow marmalade kitty he was a rescue kitty, they found him in a parking lot in a sleet storm poor thing.
Tomorrow we are getting another alpine buckling we will be using him next year, when we will be selling Velvet because we have several of his daughters, and do not want to use him on them. He will be missed he is a good buck.

Today we got our toggenburg buck and I am going to give him to mom for her birthday, can't wait til she gets back from my sister's to see him. He is a lovely looking buck and when I get my camera back from my sister I will get some pics of him, no idea what mom will name him as of yet.

We are also going to be getting a 2 month old alpine buckling he is out of a 2 star milker doe so I am hoping he will put that back into his daughters when he is old enough to breed.

The silkie chicks are now in the porch under a heat lamp with another chick that was a surprise lol a hen hid her nest and he/she was the result, as we are having rat problems in the barn and I am not taking any chances with the babies getting killed.

Ringlet is our keeper beef cow, now you ask what the heck is a keeper cow lol

that is what I called her cause we have no plans on getting rid of her or eating her.

she is a herford and is 3 years old we got her when she was about 6 months old

Bruiser is her first calf, he is 3 months old today, and he will be going into our freezer when he gets big enough. I went into the pasture and took a couple pics of them tonight. Sorry they are so dark will need to get better ones next time

Yeps I have a pullet named Elmer, she got her name because I had to hatch her out of her egg, she was very stuck and was'nt gonna get out by herself, I think the humidty was a bite messed up she was the last egg to hatch from that bunch of eggs I had put into the bator. I named her Elmer on the spot and said just you wait it will be a girl and I was'nt wrong lol

This is my niece Clarissa, she had been helping Gramma do the chores tonight
and she is sleeping over, lol at the moment she is out like a light asleep on the couch

Went to my sister's place to clip some of her chickens wings today, as they have figured that they can fly over her fence lol
It went quicker than I thought, Mom was there to grab as I was clipping a wing on each bird, so I had a bird pretty much contiguously, I think we got it done in under an hour, also trimmed her hamburg roo Elvis' spurs to take the points off as they were very sharp lol he thought I was gonna take his head off by the way he acted.

on a sad note I found one of the Julie hens dead just inside the barn door she was still warm, not sure why she died, will bury her tomorrow as it was dark when I got down to the goat barn tonight. OK about the Julie hens bit lol thats what we call the chickens our friends gave us cause they were moving out of state, and they wanted them to have a good home. I think we have 5 of them left

when I was milking the goats tonight one of our pullets decided that Little Jewel one of our alpine does would make a lovely heated roost she jumped up on her back and got all comfy wish I would had my camera with me would of made a cute pic

is this fellow his name was Boss aka The King a bantam roo

Back in 1980 our friends said hey we are gonna get some chicks do you want some too. Well we said yes went to their place and there he was terrified and cowering in the corner lol peeping his fool head off he was the first one we picked out that day.

Boss lived to be about ten years old and was so very spoiled, he knew we would "save" him from the other roo's so he would stand between our feet and make a fool of himself crowing and swinging around lol, the other roo's knew better than to mess with him when we were there.

He also loved to eat the peanuts off of our ice cream cones lol

Am new to the blogging thing so I hope I don't bore you all to tears with what goes on here lol

a bit about our place, Together with my mom we have a hobby farm consisting of way to many chickens lol around 20 goats, a beef cow and her calf, another calf we are raising for beef, several ducks, and a pigeon

we are currently milking 4 doe's having dried two others off, and plan on milking around 12 doe's next year. We have Alpine full blooded goats, a couple boer doe's and a several mix breeds

You could say that the critters are in my blood, have been around farm animals all my life, they are a part of me and my thinking is that they didn't have a choice in who picked them, all they ever ask for is love and that I will gladly do with all my heart, they are a great comfort to me.
